Marks & Spencer gives Sparks members a discount for the whole calendar month of their birthday, their anniversary and their child's birthday. It is 10%, 15% or 20%, rising with your membership tier. To get it, you must be a Sparks member and the date must already be saved in your account, in a store, on the website or in the app. Online you must be logged in, and in a store you must give your registered mobile number at billing.

Each discount works on one bill only, so put everything you want that month into a single order instead of several small ones. It also applies to reduced-price items, so in a birthday month that falls during a sale, the discount comes off the sale price. Flat-price styles, sold at one fixed price, and Last Chance to Buy pieces do not accept it, so check that the discount line shows in the cart before you pay.

The three events cannot be combined on one bill, and the child's birthday discount covers only kidswear for children aged 0 to 14. Use them as three separate shopping months: your own clothes in your birthday month, a bigger household order in your anniversary month and kidswear in your child's birthday month.

Creating an account on the website or app sends you a registration voucher by email or SMS. It works only on your first online order, only within 7 days of registering, and only on a cart of at least INR 3,000. It cannot be combined with any other offer, so register only when you are ready to buy, and fill that first cart with full-price items.

Registering an account and joining the loyalty programme are separate steps. To join, validate your mobile number with an OTP and press Join on the loyalty page. Do this before your first checkout. Your first bill after joining gives you the loyalty welcome voucher, and points start only from the bill after that, so joining after your first order pushes both back by one order.

Plan your second order around the welcome voucher. It works only on full-price items, so build a full-price order of at least INR 2,000 and place it within the voucher's 90 days. That order is also the first one to earn points.

Points come only from full-price items, but your tier counts everything you spend in a rolling 12 months, sale buys included. Upgrades are checked every day, and the higher points rate starts from your next shopping day, not on the bill that crosses the line. So when you are close to Premier or Elite, cross the line with a sale order, which earns no points anyway, and place full-price orders from the next day.

Each upgrade also gives a one-time voucher. The Premier voucher needs an order of at least INR 4,000 and the Elite voucher an order of at least INR 12,000, and neither works on reduced-price items. You get each one only once in your lifetime, even if you drop a tier and climb back, so plan a full-price order big enough to use it.

A bill earns points only when it is linked to your registered mobile number, so give that number at the till in a store and log in with it online. There is no minimum points balance to redeem, so use even a small balance at checkout before it expires.

Buy Marks & Spencer gift vouchers at a discount before you shop, then pay with them. The store's Gift Voucher and e-Pay (a stored voucher balance you spend at checkout) are powered by GyFTR, and the vouchers are sold on GyFTR and on bank voucher portals built on it, including HDFC Bank SmartBuy, Axis Bank Gift Edge, IndusInd Bank, YES BANK and DBS. The discount rate changes, and each portal shows the current rate on its voucher page. A bank's portal needs you to pay with that bank's card or account, and some also accept credit card reward points.

The vouchers work during sales, so the discount you got on the voucher comes on top of any sale price. You can use more than one voucher on a bill, and you can use a voucher in part, with the rest kept as e-Pay balance for a later order.

Vouchers cannot be refunded, exchanged for cash or extended once they expire. The expiry date is in the voucher email or SMS, so buy close to your planned order and only for an amount you will spend before that date.

Sale discounts at Marks & Spencer need no code, and the reduced price is applied in the cart or at checkout, so the price on a product tile may not be what you pay. The End of Season Sale puts different styles in different bands, such as flat 60%, 50%, 30% and 20% off, and the Mid-Season Sale uses bands of 40%, 30% and 20%. Add the pieces you want to the cart and compare their final prices there, not the banner headline.

Last Chance to Buy pieces carry stricter rules. Anything there priced at INR 990 or below cannot be returned, and some higher-priced pieces there are also non-returnable. Each product page shows whether that piece can be returned, so check it before you add it to the cart.

Some categories cannot be returned at any price: beauty, knickers and knicker packs, swimwear, shapewear, trunks, briefs, boxers, vests, thermals, tights and some socks (the product page says which). Treat any sale buy in these categories as final.
